Pre-Surgery Guide

Step 3

Chlorhexidine rinse — your healing mouthwash

Chlorhexidine is a prescription antibacterial rinse. It reduces the bacteria that cause gum inflammation and protects your healing implants — an important part of protecting your investment in your new smile.

Dr. Charles’ protocol
  • Brush your teeth first, then swish with 15 ml (one capful) for five (5) minutes and spit out.
  • Do this five (5) times a day for the first 90 days after surgery.
  • After the first 90 days, switch to maintenance: twice daily for 30 seconds, then spit out.
  • Do not dilute or mix it with water — that reduces its effectiveness.
  • It doesn’t stop plaque and tartar completely — keep brushing.

Quick answers

Is it gluten-free? Yes — 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate is gluten-free.

Does it contain alcohol? About 11% ethanol.

The aftertaste? It fades on its own; eating or drinking right after use only prolongs it.

Please note: routine dental implants are not a Medicaid or Medicare benefit and are primarily paid out-of-pocket or through third-party financing. If you have a credit score below 650, no co-signer, and require financing, we likely cannot help. Tooth loss with a medical cause may be different — see our medical insurance page.
